Blue's Clues

Ian is now a fan of Blue's Clues (if you haven't seen the show, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue's_Clues for more details). The first couple of episodes that we watched were with the original human host, Steve. Then on Saturday, we watched one of the newer episodes with Joe. "Where's Steve?!? Where's Steve?!? Who is that???" I told him it was Joe, Steve's cousin (my mistake, it's actually his brother) and asked him if he liked Steve or Joe better. "Steve." Well, we had just seen the Steve Halloween episode where they follow the clues left by the Oogulah Boogulah. Ian was hysterically giggling every time Steve said "Oogulah Boogulah" and he was actually shouting answers back at Steve. It took the 2nd viewing of the episode to get him to start interacting. Pretty neat. I remember when Thomas (now 10) was that age and loved Blue's Clues. He would shout back at the TV and do the dances with Blue and really get into it. Ian really reacts to Blue's Clues. I guess the creators really did know what they were doing!

The Joe episode that we saw had to do with emotions. Joe would make his face and body look happy, angry, or sad. They had clues as to what emotion Blue was trying to express. First, there were eyes with inward slanting eyebrows. Ian looked and immediately said, "He looks mad!" Ian showed me his mad face and his happy face. He also learned that "angry" and "mad" mean the same thing. He also did his "sad" face, which he can never do without cracking up, so it's not a particularly sad face. We're still working on it.

Ian then stuck some Halloween stickers all over his hand, put on his Halloween "watch" and went upstairs to say "Oogulah Boogulah!" to Daddy. (He did not want the skeleton toy or the bat ring in his Halloween goody bag -- "Dat's too scary!")

Also, now Ian only wants to eat the yogurt with Blue on the container or the squishy tube yogurt. I never take him to the supermarket with me, but the one day we took him, he spotted the Blue's Clues yogurt packaging. I hate it when food companies market things for kids. At least the Blue yogurt has less sugar than the regular stuff and I only buy the squishy yogurt that has organic ingredients. A lot of this stuff is made with high fructose corn syrup -- and it's especially for kids!!! Unbelievable.
