First Holiday Party of the Season
We went to our first holiday party of the season on Saturday at our friends Mike & Jeanette's house in Connecticut. Their house is GI-NORMOUS. They had all the kids "upstairs" playing, so after Ian ate most of the edamame they had out in a huge bowl, half a slice of pizza, and some carrot slivers from my carrot and daikon salad (there was a chef from the local Thai restaurant cooking some fantastic Thai food), Jeff and I took him upstairs. We got lost and wandered around the first and second floors for a while and Ian wanted to explore on his own. We finally realized that the kids were on the third floor and followed a few of them up there. The entire third floor is just one giant playroom, so the kids were having a great time. The older kids were watching "Ice Age" and Ian was just in heaven with all of the cars and balls and toys up there. Mike & Jeanette have four boys, so it was all boy stuff. He was fine with us leaving him up there with all the kids and the babysitter, so Jeff and I were able to enjoy ourselves as well. The kids came down later for cookies and Ian had a Christmas tree shaped cookie with icing, but he only took a few bites before dropping it on the floor. He's just not that interested in sweets. Anyway, I was comforted to see my friend Jen's son Alex still using a bottle at 3. She said her older son refused to drink milk when they took his bottle and hasn't had any since, so they have been more lax about it with Alex because it's more important that he's drinking milk. So we'll work on it with Ian. When he asks for nai nai, it is sometimes because he's hungry, so tell him that he can have the nai nai if he wants to go to bed (which gets me an immediate "NO!"). If I give him an apple or carrots or something, he usually goes for it.
