With Abuelita's visit, Ian has increased his vocabulary. He loves looking up at airplanes, so when Abuelita took him out every day, he would look up and she would say, "Avion." By the end of the week, he would point at an airplane and shout, "Avi! Avi!" Sometimes inside the house he doesn't even see the plane, just hears the engine and he gets all excited and yells, "Avi! Avi!" and points out the window. When he hears other engines, like motorcycles or trucks, he looks up and says, "Uh oh." He also says that when the phone rings. When the phone rings, he perks up and goes running to the phone and points at it saying, "Uh oh! Uh oh!" until one of us answers it. He also likes to talk on the phone now. He'll take the phone, hold it up to his ear and say "Hi" then babble nonsense for a while, then say "Bye!" and put the phone down.

On Memorial Day (the 29th), we went for Thai food at our favorite Thai restaurant. We usually order in, so it was a first for us to eat in the restaurant. We had ordered from there the week before and Ian really liked the chicken in the tom yum gai soup, which has lemongrass and coconut milk. He loves the shrimp chips, so when the waiter put them down, Ian went straight for them:

He really enjoyed the chicken from the soup again, as well as Thai fish cakes (which were a bit spicy) and the chicken with garlic.

Grandpa arrived on May 30 and Ian had a great time on Tuesday and Wednesday being spoiled by both grandparents.

And did I mention how well Ian took to Grandpa? Instant friends! And he can say "Grandpa". "Abuelita" was a bit more difficult, so we haven't heard that yet.It was really hot last week and our AC wasn't working properly, so the poor kid was sweating. Abuelita bought this outfit for him. It's a 24 month outfit, but it's pretty tight on Ian! Look at that 'fro!

Last Wednesday (May 31), Abuelita and Grandpa took Ian to get his haircut at a local barber shop. The barber was a old Italian man, so they spoke Italian with him. Ian was not happy about the haircut and Abuelita had to hold him the whole time, so she was covered with hair at the end of the process. We went out for Mexican food afterwards. Look at what a big boy he his with short hair!

June 1 was Ian's first day at his new school. Look how handsome he looked:

Oh yes, and we went to a wedding on Saturday so Christina from his old school came to babysit all afternoon and evening. He obviously remembered her because he was shy for about a second before starting to babble and share his toys with her. He very cheerfully said good-bye to us when we left.

On Sunday, we went to the city to hang out with Tia Cindy and Uncle Dennis in their new apartment, which has a great view north, east and south. There were a lot of airplanes and helicopters, so Ian was beside himself running around pointing. Abuelita would point out the helicopters and say, "Helicoptero" and by the end of the afternoon, Ian looked up, pointed and said, "Helicoptero" pretty clearly. We were all surprised.

The other thing is that all animals are "wo-wo", so I have been correcting him and say "niao-niao" (Chinese for bird) when he points to birds (which he usually does). On Monday, when we were leaving the house, he pointed at a bird and said, "Niao-niao", then looked up and pointed at a plane and said, "Avi!"

And today when I dropped Ian off at school, he didn't cling to me. He sat down in one of the little chairs and said, "Bye!" before I had even let go of him. I guess he's adjusted!
