Happy Year of the Dog!

Gong xi fa cai to everyone! Jeff left on Friday morning for Manila and Abuelita and Grandpa are here taking care of Ian. We had a very exciting weekend, as we accompanied Aunt Cindy on her hunt for the perfect wedding dress.
Here he is waiting for the train with Grandpa and Abuelita. It was in the 50's on Saturday, so Ian got a chance to wear the new shearling coat from Jiu-jiu and Jiu-ma (Alan & XW).

He fell asleep on the train after munching on some Goldfish crackers. He actually started to fall asleep while he was eating one.

We met up with Dennis and Cindy in Grand
Central and went to try out a new restaurant in Rockefeller Center called Brasserie Ruhlman. They only opened a week ago and we were there for their first brunch. Ian enjoyed the olive bread, my hamburger and Aunt Cindy's roast chicken. He sat on the banquette with me and Dennis like a big boy.

At Saks, Ian was fascinated by the escalator and planted himself in front of them and yelled, "Da! Da!" at the top of his lungs at the people getting off the escalator.

Ian voiced his opinions of the gowns she tried on (he now knows more than Dennis does about the potential wedding gown) and made himself known to every Saks employee on the 8th floor. I was following him around and the employees are all calling him by name -- "Hey, Ian! Are you back to visit me again?" "Hey, Curly! Love that hair!" The ladies in the bridal salon all wanted to take him home. The glassware and crystal section was on the 8th floor, but Ian was very well-behaved and didn't even try to touch anything. He preferred the light under the crystal glasses. (By the way, he's wearing an outfit Aunt Cindy bought for him in Barcelona. Tres chic, no?)

On Sunday, New Year's Day, Kai-Yi Po and Gong, Aunt Allie, Aunt Eva & Uncle Allan, and cousins Carolyn and Peter came by for a visit. Little Peter seems so small next to Ian! Carolyn was very generous when we asked if Ian could keep Peter -- she very quickly answered, "Yes!" Ian wasn't quite sure what to make of Peter at first. He did get a smidge concerned when I was holding Peter, but quickly forgot when he saw Carolyn playing and went to join her. He was also distracted by Kai-Yi Po corrupting him with candy. Then he stared at Carolyn, who was sitting on his rocking horse eating a candy. He stared and stared, then finally stuck out his hand and said, "Eh!" (Translation: "Give me that candy!").

Today, we had a milestone: Ian climbed the entire flight of stairs by himself. Grandpa and Abuelita took him to a friend's house in New Jersey for lunch and he was a bit shy, but ate quite heartily and took a good nap. He managed to give himself a good gash under his left eye while playing. When I came home, he was all smiles and yelling at the top of his lungs. He's been very huggy and kissy with me lately. This morning, he woke up at 4 am and would not let me put him back down until 5 am. He was soooooo good last week. I had high hopes that he was sleeping through the night. *sigh*
