Bronx Zoo

We went to the Bronx Zoo on Sunday and now we have a family membership so we can go every weekend if we want! Ian had a blast. His new words are "bison", "babirusa" (some sort of wild pig) and "puffin" (which he pronounces "punfin"). We saw so many animals and Ian just didn't know what to look at. The bird house was really fascinating for him as he tried to find the birds in each exhibit. Unfortunately, this photo is blurry, but he now knows to say "Cheese!" at the camera. He was saying, "Cheese, Daddy!"

There's a great tiger exhibit there, Tiger Mountain, but of course, Ian was more interested in the pictures of the tigers and the fish in the tigers' watering hole:

He kept pointing to them and telling Daddy, "Pes! Pes grande!" He stayed there at least 10 minutes while other kids and their parents came and went. Finally, a cute little girl came and Ian looked her way and edged a bit closer and switched to English. "Fish! Big fish!" he told her. She smiled and agreed with him.

See his foot up in the air? He was showing off a bit for her. And with the positive reaction he got, he turned and pointed at us and told her, "Dat Mommy and dat Daddy!" Which is a big deal, because he only introduces us to people he likes. Of course, he may have gotten further if he had stuck to Spanish as she was Latina and was speaking Spanish with her parents.

The reptile house was also great -- he got to see some crocs (or were they alligators?) up close, as well as snakes, turtles and frogs (Mommy's least favorite animal). But we saved the gorillas, giraffes and elephants for next time, so we're going to have to go back soon!

I also have some photos to post from Wai Po's visit and from our freak snowstorm (Ian learned how to throw snowballs and build snowmen), but we're leaving tomorrow for Tia Cindy and Tio Dennis' wedding! Can you believe it? And Ian's got the big job of ringbearer, so we hope he'll make us proud yet again... Keep your fingers crossed and I'll post more when I get back next week...
